LK-SEAL 16
Potassium Methyl Siliconate Solution
Hydrophobic coating ( potassium methyl siliconate) on exterior surfaces:
LK-SEAL 16 (potassium methyl siliconate) is an effective and versatile water repellent solution, offering long-lasting protection for a variety of substrates like natural stones, insulation material, tiles, plasters, and painted surfaces where porosity is present. Its ease of application, durability, and compatibility with different materials make it an ideal choice for construction and restoration projects. LK-SEAL 16 reacts with atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and develops water repellent properties; the active ingredient, polymethylsilicic acid, forms on the masonry substrate.
Key features:
- LK-SEAL 16 (potassium methyl siliconate) is a environmentally friendly and Solvent free , aqueous
- Retains the substrate’s original appearance
- Small molecule structure allows for deep substrate penetration, retains the substrate’s water repellent for longer time
- Easy to apply
- Penetrating water repellent action at low dosage – fast water beading effect
Technical details of potassium methyl siliconate:

Application guidelines of potassium methyl siliconate:
- Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as dust, dirt, oils, and loose particles.
- Dilute 1:10 to 1:14 by water for coatings. Lower dilution may not always give better results.
- Optimization of dilution may be required to obtain maximum performance on selected substrates. A test application is necessary on each surface to be treated to ensure compatibility, appearance and the desired water repellent result. Do not apply if rain is expected within 6 hours.

- Allow the treated surface to cure for at least 24 hours, protecting it from rain or moisture during this period to ensure optimal water repellency.
For this high pH material, ensure gloves and safety PPE are used.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q1. What is the appearance of LK-SEAL16 (potassium methyl siliconate) product?
Answer: The product appears as a clear to slightly hazy liquid
Q2. Is LK-SEAL16 product water-soluble?
Answer: Yes, it dissolves completely in water. After dilution, it forms a clear liquid.
Q3. What is the solids content of this product?
Answer: The product contains 55-60% solids.
Q4. What is the recommended dilution ratio for optimal performance?
Answer: A dilution of 1:10 to 1:14 with water is ideal for achieving the best results. The water drop contact angle will be 130-135 degree.
Q5. Which substrates are best suited for this product?
Answer: It works best on porous materials such as cement boards, natural stones, bricks, and plaster.
Q6. What happens if a higher dosage is used?
Answer: The substrate may turn white if the dosage exceeds 10%.
Q7. What are the application guidelines for this product?
Answer: Refer to the product bulletin for detailed application instructions.
Q8. What precautions should be taken during application?
Answer: As the product is highly alkaline, use proper PPE to avoid skin irritation.
Q9. What are the storage conditions for this product?
Answer: Follow the precautions on the TDS & SDS Store it properly in a cool place with proper labelling.
Q10. What are the curing conditions for this product?
Answer: Ensure the substrate is moisture-free and clean before application. After coating, allow it to cure at room temperature or under natural sunlight for 24 hours.
Q11. How many coats are recommended for the best performance?
Answer: Two coats are ideal: one horizontal and one vertical.(both brush and spray).
Q12. Can tap water be used for dilution?
Answer: DI (Deionized) water is preferred for dilution. Tap water may be hard or contain other impurities and may lead to surface discoloration.
Q13. Do you have comparative data of water repellent properties with market product on various substrate?
Answer: Yes, We do have comparative test results with market product on various substrates like concrete, plaster, cement board, stones, bricks etc.
Q14. Does this product freeze?
Answer: We have tested it up to -20oC, it does not freeze down to this temperature.
